UTM-3 is a shunting and clean-up locomotive with a power of 1,800 kW with AC/DC electric transmission, a four-axle carriage, design speed of 100 km/h. It is designed to perform all types of train, shunting and clean-up operations on mainline, station and technological tracks of the Russian Federation, in all climatic zones. Use of UTM-3 for shunting and clean-up work when transporting service trains, hoppers, with contaminants during operation of ballast and ditch cleaning systems will allow freeing up diesel locomotives for freight train transportation
