2ES6 Sinara freight two-section DC electric locomotive is designed to drive freight trains on 1,520 mm gauge railways electrified with a 3kV direct current voltage.
It is capable of driving a train weighing 8,000 tons in sections with a flat track profile (up to 6 ‰) and a train weighing 5,000 tons in sections with a mountain profile (up to 10 ‰).
It is possible to operate an electric locomotive in a system of many units, and autonomous operation of one section of an electric locomotive is also possible.

Advantages
-
Independent traction motor field allowed to improve antisked properties and expand traction regulation parameters.
-
Microprocessor control system ensures control of all the devices of an electric locomotive.
-
Application of the on-board diagnostic system provides information messages to a driver, formation of information and its sending to information centers and service points.
-
Application of GPS/GLONASS global positioning system and auto-driving system with possibility to transfer control to operators of remote stationary control centers.
-
New technical solutions that were not previously used in Russian locomotive engineering allowed to improve technical characteristics of the locomotive, to reduce operating costs, to increase reliability and safety of the electric locomotive (compared to the VL11 electric locomotive):
-
Electricity consumption decreased by 10-15%
-
Repair labor intensity decreased by 15%
-
Improved working conditions for locomotive crews
-
Overhaul life increased by 50%
-
Average daily performance growth due to increasing the weight norm by 25-45%
