4 March 2020 Swiss Ambassador and Head of Kaluga Region Visit Kalugaputmash Plant

On March 4, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation in Russia Yves Rossier and the Acting Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladislav Shapsha paid a working visit to one of the region’s largest machine-building enterprises, Kalugaputmash plant, which is part of Sinara-Transport Machines (STM) Holding. President of Sinara Group Dmitry Pumpyansky and STM Director General Viktor Lesh also attended the event.

Guests visited shops of Kalugaputmash plant, where they produce advanced track equipment. Innovative models of equipment, including shunting diesel locomotive with hydromechanical transmission TGMK2 and high-tech laying crane UK 25/25 were presented to the visitors. The guests also saw multifunctional ballast cleaning machine ShchOM produced by Kaluga Plant Remputmash. During the visit, the participants discussed prospects for cooperation between the region’s administration, Russian and Swiss engineering enterprises.

“STM Holding enterprises make significant contribution to economy of the Kaluga Region. Thanks to their activities in the region, an advanced cluster of track engineering has been formed. It is the leader in Russia and is one of the five top global manufacturers of track equipment. Today, STM factories located in the Kaluga Region employ more than 5 thousand people. All enterprises demonstrate good production dynamics and are significant taxpayers for the regional budget. The region and STM Holding established close cooperation in the field of increasing labor productivity, staff training, and educational projects for schoolchildren. We consider this cooperation as an excellent example of multifaceted interaction of regional authorities and business,” Vladislav Shapsha said.

President of Sinara Group Dmitry Pumpyansky stressed that the Kaluga Region is a key region for Sinara-Transport Machines. “Currently, there are necessary conditions at four sites of the Holding for production of track equipment to develop cooperation both within the company and abroad. Today we presented STM development strategy in the Kaluga Region and discussed the possibility of implementing joint projects with Swiss companies with support of regional authorities. First of all, we are talking about cooperation in the field of engineering, software, production of individual components for machines and mechanisms, provided that these industries are localized in the Kaluga Region,” Dmitry Pumpyansky said.

“The history of the Swiss railways has more than 150 years, with them modern Switzerland was created, our economy was built around them. Today in Switzerland there are many companies producing special types of railway machinery and equipment, providing various engineering services for railways. Our enterprises have great potential for cooperation with STM Holding in this field. Each of the parties has something that will be of interest for the other side, and this is the best basis for mutually beneficial cooperation,” Yves Rossier said.

Besides Kalugaputmash, the Kaluga Region has another large enterprise of STM Track Machinery Division - Kaluga Plant Remputmash. Also in the region there are two branches of this plant: in Lyudinovo and Tovarkovo. Together, these enterprises produce more than 80% of track equipment supply in the Russian market and about 7% in the global market.
